Natural, Timeless

Grace Richey Clarke window shades provide a versatile, elegant approach to window coverings. With what we call “allowing the outdoors in,” we offer customers the most effective solution for light control and privacy, without eliminating views of the outside. We use natural threads, fibers and woods to create a wide variety of styles and colors. Additionally, we can use either attached or unattached linings to achieve heat, light, privacy and noise control. Many styles can be woven in single or double density, controlling the amount of light penetration and privacy available. Although we offer a wide variety of fiber color selections, custom fiber and warp thread colors are available.

Every shade that Grace Richey Clarke manufactures is hand woven in the USA with a “finished edge”. Custom weaving to the precise dimension of each window provides a differentiated look that does not fray or wear as is the case with inferior “chopped to order” shades.

Lead Time

Though we suggest allowing  8 weeks for production, we understand the need for providing design clients with the products they crave in the time frame they demand.  For this reason, we invite the challenge to meet special time requirements that our clients may have.  We are proud of our American production for both its outstanding quality and the unparalleled flexibility, and will go above and beyond to meet any special challenges that may arise.

Grace Richey Clarke shades can be woven up to 144” in width and to almost any length.  Mitering of shades for bay windows is available.  Bowed, curved and custom shaped windows can easily be dealt with using a flexible header.  Our manufacturing department works directly with installers and workrooms to template windows that are bowed, curved, or that require any special shaping.

The Technical Side

Grace Richey Clarke offers a variety of style options and control mechanisms to create the perfect shade for nearly all environments. All of our fiber can be ordered for Roman Shade operation or as panels. Many fibers can also be utilized in roller shade operation. We offer pulley control, cord locks, continuous clutch operation and an extensive array of motorization options.

Options and Mechanization:

Cord Cleat with Cord Lock or Pulley

Pulley or cord locks are provided standard with each shade. Either option can be used on headrails as narrow as ¾” in depth.  Cord locks can be used on shades up to 70” in width.  Pulley controls can be used on shades up to approximately 144” wide.

Grace Richey Clarke is pleased to offer a broad spectrum of motorization offerings.  We offer battery, low voltage and line voltage motors for retrofit and new construction environments.  We utilize motors for roman fold, roller shades and top down shades.  We produce shades with motors installed or “prepped for motorization” where a work room or authorized motor dealer installs the motor.  Our motorized shades can be easily integrated into home automatization systems or used as stand-alone shades.

Valances and Returns

GRC offers valances and returns as options on all its shades.  Valances are woven from the same material as the shade.  Valances can be ordered to fall off of either the back or front of the shade (or both). Valances can be order lined or unlined.  Returns (or side valances) are sometimes ordered with outside mount shades. They are hand-woven with the same fiber as the shade and hide the side of the control mechanism.

Arched, Arced and Fixed Shades

Custom shades and unique windows present a challenge that Grace Richey Clarke is eager to embrace.  We source and stock custom headrail components and have the expertise in our manufacturing department to build shades for nearly any window.  We happily discuss templating and design with workrooms, installers and designers directly to ensure we fabricate the perfect shade for nearly any environment.  We build arced shades that fit the irregular curves of 100+ year old Victorians and angled shades for modern houses.  That difficult window might be easier than you think…

Double Treatment Windows –BlackOut Roller Shades

GRC offers multiple types/ styles of blackout roller shades that can accompany a Grace Richey shade as a second treatment on a window.  The roller shade can be mounted on the same headrail as the Grace Richey Clarke shade or can be mounted as a separate treatment.  Oftentimes the roller shade will be “inside mounted” on the window and the Grace Richey Clarke shade will be “outside mounted”.  These options give outstanding flexibility with respect to light control for a window.  GRC Offers black out roller shades in both “cord and real” and motorized options.  Additionally GRC offers custom narrow tubing to fit in tight environments.

Product Styles and Colors

Continuous Clutch Control

GRC offers both “slim” and conventional continuous clutch control systems.  A slim clutch can be mounted on a headrail as narrow as 1.5” deep.  A larger clutch can be mounted on a 2 ½” deep headrail.  Our clutch systems can be fitted with plastic or metal continuous control loops in a variety of colors.

GRC offers multiple types of fabric lining. Opaque in either white or ivory allows for added privacy when sewn into a woven blind. This lining presents an alternative to either a double treatment or full blackout. This style lining provides significant privacy and light control while preserving some of the natural woven shade’s transparency.

Australian blackout lining is used when the desired effect is to block out all light. Grace Richey Clarke shades with blackout lining provide full light control while still offering the natural beauty of a hand woven shade.

Additionally, GRC will line shades with the Customer’s Own Material (COM).

Top Down/Bottom Up

A Top Down/Bottom Up shade is a clever approach at providing a space with privacy, yet allowing the top portion of a window to be fairly free from window covering.  This allows the shade to rise from the bottom and lower from the top.  These shades are typically manufactured with a cord lock control, and are produced with a valance to disguise the control mechanism.  Grace Richey Clarke custom manufactures the top rail of the Top Down/Bottom Up to ensure a clean line and minimize visible hardware.

Control Forward Operation

In some instances, shades are mounted with the control mechanism in front of the shade.  This can be helpful when a window is hard to reach, the window frame limits the installation, or when the shade should be closer to the window.  We recommend an additional over treatment (front valance) in front of this type of shade to mask the control mechanisms.

Fiber Only

Grace Richey Clarke offers “fiber only” alternatives for fabricating window treatments in local workrooms.  All fibers can be woven at a specific width and length and shipped to designers or workrooms directly.  Uses for “fiber only” shipping include drapery panels and roman shades.

Grace Richey Clarke Roller Shades

Certain Grace Richey Clarke weaves (including the entire O-34 line) can be specified for roller shade operation. These patterns will roll on a tube and can be adapted for either manual or motor driven operation. We manufacture valances to conceal the tube or the tube can be hidden architecturally.
